About Samantha

Hi, I’m Samantha. I’m a therapist who works with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, identity exploration, chronic illness, and major life transitions. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can show up fully — with honesty, complexity, uncertainty, and vulnerability — without fear of judgment.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply relational. I see therapy not simply as a place to “fix” problems, but as an opportunity to better understand yourself, strengthen your relationships, and move toward a life that feels more connected, meaningful, and sustainable.

I understand that every person’s story is unique. Some clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or self-criticism. Others feel emotionally stuck, disconnected in relationships, uncertain about identity, or exhausted from the emotional impact of chronic illness. Together, we work to understand the patterns beneath these experiences while building greater self-awareness, emotional safety, and self-trust.

My background as a therapist, sex educator, and chronic illness advocate deeply informs the way I work. I value openness, curiosity, and creating a space where clients feel safe discussing topics that may feel vulnerable or difficult to bring elsewhere. I especially enjoy supporting clients in exploring identity, relationships, sexuality, and the emotional realities of living with chronic health conditions.

In therapy, I draw from approaches including Internal Family Systems (IFS), AEDP, psychodynamic therapy, ACT, DBT, and strengths-based therapy. While my work is insight-oriented and emotionally focused, I also help clients build practical tools for navigating everyday challenges, communication difficulties, emotional overwhelm, and relationship stress.

For couples, I help partners strengthen communication, navigate conflict with greater understanding, and build healthier patterns of connection and emotional intimacy. For individuals, therapy often becomes a space to reconnect with themselves, process difficult experiences, and better understand the ways they have learned to cope and protect themselves over time.

Above all, I believe therapy works best when it feels collaborative and authentic. My goal is to create a supportive environment where you feel understood, respected, and empowered to grow at your own pace.

I offer both in-person and virtual sessions and welcome you to reach out for a free initial consultation.

Outside of Work

Just as I encourage for my clients, my identity isn't solely my work! I live in Petworth with my partner and our three cute cats, two of whom will definitely show up during virtual sessions. I  also enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors (from the fall to the spring, then I'll be holed up in the AC), and perfecting the art of hanging out.

Education and Background

I have a Master's in Counseling from the College of William & Mary, and am a licensed clinical counselor in DC and MD.

I also completed a two-year certification program in Imago Relational Therapy, which informs much of my work with both couples and individuals.
